BY LAURA MATZ, TUFTS STUDENT 1970-1974
I think I am the most 'elderly' Tufts student to respond as of yet. I graduated in 1974 as a drama major. I went to NY for 3 years after graduation but am not involved actively in theater anymore (sadly).
Tony was an inspiration not only as an acting teacher but as a person. He had an authoritative air about him, so that if he gave you constructive feedback, you listened. And if he praised you, you felt on top of the world. I remember being singled out in one acting class as having done a superb job on a piece... and feeling like I could do anything.
I lost my father while I was at Tufts, and Tony was tremendously supportive(as was Doc). His ability to connect as both a teacher and a friend was tremendous.
I send my deepest condolences to Simon and Linda. Tony was a huge part of my youth, and we have all lost someone very special.
