Infectious Enthusiasm

tree BY DENISE COLE, TUFTS GRADUATE STUDENT 1993-1999, TEACHER, CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY
I always loved being with Tony because he seemed to truly love all people--and loved taking the time to get to know them. Tony was always incredibly generous with his time. In my own case, he was always happy to help me out.

I first met Tony Cornish on a railway platform in London (I forget which one now) because I was to be his dramaturg for "The Winter's Tale" that he was to direct at Tufts University. He was so gracious and seemed genuinely happy to work with me even though he just met me. I left our meeting walking on air. His enthusiasm was so infectious.

Tony continued to be my great friend and mentor throughout my years as a graduate student at Tufts University. While plugging away at course work, my oral and written exams, and dissertation, Tony and I, along with other Tufts grads, had lunch and talked about all sorts of things. What a delight. I always went away rejuvenated! No one could tell a story and punctuate it as perfectly as Tony could.

Tony, you've given us all so much. Thank you from the bottom of my
heart.
